Join a Goju Ryu Karate Organization That Puts Members First

Thank you for your interest in the Okinawan Goju Ryu Kenkyu Kai! We are a family of serious practitioners dedicated to training, research, and mutual respect. We welcome applications from any individual or dojo that shares our passion for traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu and Kobudo.

Are You an Instructor or Dojo Owner Looking for a New Home?

If you’re tired of organizational politics, unreasonable demands, and exorbitant fees, you are in the right place. The OGRKK was founded to be an alternative. We don’t tell you how to run your dojo, who you can train with, or charge you a fortune for rank advancement. Instructors are never humiliated or put on the spot, especially in front of their students. We provide a supportive environment where information flows freely and every member has a voice.

The OGRKK Difference: What We Offer

The OGRKK is an organization void of meetings, power struggles, egos, and politics. We are built on a foundation of respect and a shared passion for the art. Training is adjusted as needed for elderly members or membe4s with a disability.

  • A True Family Atmosphere: Members are never spoken to or treated in a disrespectful manner. We train hard, and we have fun doing it.
  • Low, Transparent Costs: Our annual three-day Gasshuku costs only $100 to attend, and our grading fees are only $100 regardless of Dan level. Membership is just $50/year.
  • Equality Among Dojos: All member dojos (Shibu) are considered equal, and each Shibu Dojo reports directly to Honbu Dojo. This eliminates layers of bureaucracy and ensures fairness.
  • Karate and Kobudo Training: The organization offers expert training and internationally recognized rank certification in both Okinawan Goju Ryu karate and traditional Okinawan kobudo.
  • Excellent Communication: We offer various ways for members to communicate and share information, including a members-only Facebook Page, this website, and a free organizational newsletter.

Membership Requirements

We welcome applications from anyone who shares our values, regardless of age, race, or sex. The primary requirements are a belief in studying traditional Goju Ryu, a willingness to research and share information, and a commitment to training. You must be a good citizen without a criminal record. Instructors are required to attend at least one OGRKK Gasshuku (seminar) per year to ensure standardization and camaraderie. Member dojo can also host Gasshuku at their dojo. All instructors can train one on one at Honbu Dojo free of charge, to receive detailed in-depth instruction.
